Investment in the Education Sector, the Government is Committed to Improving the Quality of Indonesian Human Resources
- 29 May 2023
Jakarta – The Directorate General of State Assets (DJKN) held a Media Briefing regarding Government Investment in Education Sector with journalists who are members of the Macroeconomic Journalists Communication Forum (Forkem) on Friday (10/6) online. This activity provides a complete picture of the management of the Endowment Fund in the Education Sector by the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP).
Separated State Wealth Director Meirijal Nur said the Endowment Fund is the State Budget's commitment to strengthen the quality of human resources through education. From 2010 to December 2021, the total education funds that have been allocated by the Government to LPDP are IDR 99.11 trillion.
In order to maintain the Government's commitment, the 2023 State Budget is also directed at boosting national productivity, including through improving the quality of human resources and strengthening education programs.
"The hope is that Indonesian human resources will be of higher quality, that way, all activities in Indonesia will also have good quality. Finally, overall prosperity can be realized, “he said.
In agreement with Meirijal's explanation, LPDP Finance and General Director Emmanuel Agust Hartono introduced the LPDP Native Scholarship, namely the Affirmation Scholarship.
Affirmation Scholarships, specifically for those who need support both in terms of area and conditions. For example, in remote or outermost areas, those with special needs (people with disabilities), to those who are in pre-prosperous conditions. Apart from that, the LPDP recently launched a special scholarship for Papuan sons and daughters.
"This is a form of government alignment to provide scholarships as a whole with specific targets with convenience. They will be provided with preparation for departure and technical preparation for studying abroad and domestically," said Agust.
The endowment funds in the Education Sector managed by LPDP are used to finance education-related needs, including the Education Endowment Fund of Rp. 81.1 trillion, the Endowment Fund for Research of Rp. 8 trillion, the Endowment Fund for Higher Education Rp. 7 trillion, and the Endowment Fund for Culture of Rp. 3 trillion.
"We believe one way to improve the quality of human resources is through education with various supporting activities, such as scholarships, research support, support for universities in need, and so on," concluded Meirijal.
For information, until the end of 2021, LPDP has provided scholarships to 29,872 recipients from 34 provinces throughout Indonesia. A total of 15,631 alumni receiving LPDP scholarships work in various sectors. There are 62.8% of them working in the public sector such as academics, researchers, ASN, professional employees, to the TNI/Polri. While the remaining 35 work in the private sector, and 2.2% in the social sector. Specifically for the Collaborative Scholarship program, as many as 69,952 people have received benefits.
This endowment is the government's commitment in the field of education to ensure the continuity of education programs for the next generation and to improve the quality of Indonesian human resources (HR) who are competitive. In order to maintain this commitment, going forward, apart from playing a role in maintaining national economic recovery, the 2023 State Budget will also be directed to boost national productivity, including through improving the quality of human resources and strengthening education programs.
