PRESS RELEASE
OJK, MINISTER OF COMMUNICATION AND DIGITAL AFFAIRS, AND BANKS STRENGTHEN SCAM AND ONLINE GAMBLING ERADICATION MEASURES
Jakarta, 14 July 2026. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), and the national banking industry strengthen efforts to combat scams and online gambling by fostering a safe, credible, and integrity-driven digital financial ecosystem that protects the public.
The agreement between the parties was affirmed in the OJK Banking Forum 2026 "Banking Information Technology Governance Enhancement and Financial Crime and Online Gambling Eradication Measure Enforcement in the Digital Era", held in OJK Office in Jakarta, on Tuesday.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Meutya Hafid, Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Chief Executive of Banking Supervision of OJK Dian Ediana Rae, and leaders of ministries/institutions, commercial banks directors, banking associations, and all financial services sector stakeholders attended the forum.
The forum served as a platform for discussing strategic measures to maintain and strengthen the integrity of the national financial system and to protect the public from online gambling and other financial crimes, thereby reinforcing Indonesia's digital economic resilience.
In her remarks, Friderica reiterated that the current major challenge of financial services sector is not maintaining industry health, but to protect the people from the ever-developing financial crime methods.
“Today, our responsibility is not only to ensure that banks and financial services companies are healthy, but also, ultimately, to protect consumers from various scams and online gambling that looms over the community, and decreases credibility and trust in our financial system," she said.
Friderica emphasized that strong synergy and collaboration among stakeholders are essential to building a safe, credible, and integrity-driven digital financial ecosystem.
Friderica also reminded how digitization development will always be followed by complex crime method changes, requiring financial services industry to strengthen governance, risk management, and consumer protection.
“Digital transformation demands a paradigm shift. I invite everyone in the banking industry to integrate information technology risk management as a part of organizational strategy. Support for online gambling eradication does not stop in regulatory responsibility—it must come from genuine commitment. Because these (online gambling and scams) are social diseases, which may attack our siblings, our parents, our neighbors, our friends, and even our children," Friderica added.
She took interinstitutional and financial services business actors' collaborative measures through the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) as an example, which has been operating to enhance public protection from digital financial scams.
As of the forum implementation, IASC has received 608,167 reports, identified more than 1 million reported accounts, banned 557,751 accounts, and recovered almost Rp200 billion victim's funds.
Banks' Integrity Enforcement
Dian Ediana Rae underlined banks' strategic roles in maintaining the national financial system integrity amid the rising threats of digital crimes.
“Banks hold a central role in the national financial system, and is obliged to always maintain public trust, therefore financial crime prevention measures utilizing bank products and services and information technology governance enhancement become strategic step in this digital transformation era," Dian said.
Dian explained that OJK and the banking industry continue to strengthen efforts to eradicate online gambling through three key measures: strengthening regulations, enhancing risk-based supervision, and reinforcing coordination in handling accounts suspected of being linked to online gambling activities.
As of May 2026, OJK recorded 2.8 million business connection with potential customers, 51.2 thousand business connection terminations with customers indicated with online gambling involvements, and 32,454 blocked accounts after undergoing Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD).
In addition, the banking industry has submitted suspicious financial transaction reports with alleged gambling crimes, which increased 260.03 percent in 2025, reflecting the banking industry's highly upheld commitment, and the gravity of online gambling eradication challenges.
Meanwhile, Meutya Hafid emphasized that efforts to eradicate online gambling must be comprehensive by dismantling the entire ecosystem rather than solely blocking access to websites.
Meutya explained Komdigi's continuous online gambling eradication efforts through content management and access banning to various digital platforms. As of July 2026, Komdigi has handled more than 3.7 million online-gambling contents in various digital platforms.
However, she viewed that access bans will not be as effective without freezing the funds within the online gambling ecosystem.
“Online gambling eradication shall not stop at access bans to sites. It must target the entire ecosystem. Access terminations should go hand in hand with freezing and banning the container accounts, which are the arterial route of online gambling fund circulation," Meutya said.
Through the 2026 OJK Banking Forum, OJK invites the entire banking industry to continuously enforce information technology governance, improve risk management, and enhancing suspicious transaction detection system, and expanding cross-sector collaborations to protect the national financial system integrity and the public from all financial crimes in the digital era.
