OJK IMPROVES PUBLIC FINANCIAL LITERACY IN EAST INDONESIA THROUGH NATIONAL FINANCIAL INCLUSION MOVEMENT GENCARKAN

 

Manado, February 14, 2025. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to promote equal and massive financial literacy and inclusion in all Indonesia through the National Movement of Financial Inclusion GENCARKAN to support the Government's Asta Cita (The Eight Goals).

During her remarks in the GENCARKAN Dissemination to Financial Services Business Actors (PUJK) in North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and North Maluku, Chief Executive of Market Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection of OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated that the collaboration and synergy between related stakeholders is the key to financial literacy and inclusion improvement.

Friderica also expects PUJK to pay attention to regional potentials to create prosperous community through fostering such as financial educations to local MSMEs.

“Your roles are significant, because even as a regulator, OJK can only encourage you. The one who ultimately executes everything are you, to promote MSME fostering programs," Friderica highlighted.

She also mentioned OJK's Inclusive Financial Ecosystem (EKI) Program for regional economic development that eradicates poverty in the rural areas.

“Through these programs, OJK invites all Financial Services Industry Players to aid the governmental programs to their success," Friderica said.

As of January 1, 2024, until January 31, 2025, OJK had held 5,478 educational events, reaching 7.3 million participants nationally. Additionally, GENCARKAN had initiated 13,611 activities that reached 124.4 million participants.

OJK will also support financial inclusion through TPAKD in all Indonesia, implementing One Bank Account One Student (KEJAR), University Students and Youth's Savings (SiMuda) and Credit/Financing Against Loansharks (K/PMR), Credit/Financing for Agriculture Priority Sector (K/PSP) as well as Capacity Enhancement and Business Matching through EKI and Islamic Boarding School Inclusive Financial Ecosystem (EPIKS).

Financial Education at Universitas Sam Ratulangi

During this event, Friderica also held a public lecture “Investment Conscious Young Generation" to 1,000 Universitas Sam Ratulangi students and Higher Education Institutions representatives in Manado, such as Universitas Negeri Manado, Universitas Klabat and Universitas Katolik De La Salle Manado.

Friderica underlined university's role in guiding their students both academically and in financial literacy and inclusion for future prosperity.

“Every child in Indonesia, everyone in Indonesia should have this essential life skill, understanding finances and utilizing their money to create a prosperous life," said Friderica.

Furthermore, she explained OJK's continuous efforts in various collaborations and synergies with the stakeholders to achieve the Government's Asta Cita, one of which is to enhance Human Resources quality and poverty eradication in the rural areas.

Dean of Faculty of Business and Economy of Universitas Sam Ratulangi Victor P.K. Lengkong extended his appreciation to OJK for the education, and a message for the younger generation to keep learning and adapting to the information technology developments, including checking the legality and the sensibility of investment providers' offers and profitability.

“We hope all the students and the lecturers will be more aware of the importance of knowledge, on financial management and consumer rights in the financial services sector," said Victor.

Ten financial literacy ambassadors from Universitas Sam Ratulangi were inaugurated during the public lecture, who were symbolically given with financial products in hopes of equal and massive financial literacy improvement acceleration in Manado and its surrounding areas.

The Financial Literacy Mobile commerce car or SiMOLEK was brought and driven to several locations for educational purposes. Moreover, various OJK booths were opened to introduce OJK Financial Education Learning Management System (LMSKU), as well as financial services booths from PT Bursa Efek Indonesia and PT Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia, providing investment-related information in the capital market sector. PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and its fostered MSMEs provided information on SiMuda as a part of MSME empowerment.
