PRESS RELEASE
OJK ENCOURAGES SAVING MONEY HABITS AT EARLY AGE FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
National Savings Day and Financial Literacy Month in 2025
Jakarta, August 22, 2025. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK), along with Ministries/Institutions, the financial services industry, Regional Government, and stakeholders promoted saving money habits at early age for better future planning and national development. The call to save money since earlier ages surfaced during the National Savings Day (HIM) and Financial Literacy Month (BLK) 2025 in Jakarta, Friday, exploring “Brighter Golden Indonesia through Saving Habits".
Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK Mirza Adityaswara, Chief Executive of Market Conduct Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection of OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi, leaders of ministries/institutions, and financial services business actors all attended the event.
The event was held at the Dhanapala Building in the Ministry of Finance Complex, with more than 1,000 students in all levels participating.
Airlangga Hartarto, who is the concurrent Chairman of the National Inclusive Financial Board (DNKI), emphasized saving money at early age to anticipate urgent situations in the future.
“Friends, it is important to save some money, so you don't have to ask for more money to your parents when you want to buy something. When you have saved some of your pocket money, you can have the liberty to buy it with your own savings," Airlangga stated.
Mirza Adityaswara expressed a similar sentiment, explaining that saving money is not only beneficial for oneself, but also for the national economy development.
“Start saving your money, no matter how small the amount is. The people's money will be circularly distributed for national development, financing companies, manpower, and Indonesia. Back then we saved money using Students' Savings. The youth now can save through SimPel. Old habits remained: implement saving habits as early as you can," Mirza said.
Friderica Widyasari Dewi also confirmed HIM as OJK's support to the Government's Asta Cita (The Eight Goals) for Golden Generation of Indonesia in 2045.
“Students can buy anything they need or want with their own money, not with debts. Always be aware and careful of illegal online loans and consumptive behaviour for the sake of lavish lifestyle, because it will be harmful to your future as a youth," Friderica conveyed.
Regional Officials and Financial Services Industry Associations and Leaders were named as awardees.
From the KEJAR Program, including Students' Savings SimPel and Children's Savings, making up almost 88 percent of Indonesian students or 58.32 million saving account owners valuing over Rp34 trillion.
Throughout the HIM 2025 period from July 1 to August 10, 2025, there has been 263,109 new saving accounts opened, with savings amounting to Rp338.6 billion. An amount of 4,283 disseminations were held, with total participations of 334,540 from school and university students, teachers, and parents. The Bank Goes to School Programs were held for more than 120 thousand times in more than 101 thousand schools in all over Indonesia.
These achievements reflected the joint commitment to expand financial access and raise the awareness among youth on saving money and financial independence in the future.
