OJK Launches "Bali Center for Sustainable Finance" to support sustainable development program

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) in collaboration with Udayana University Bali launched the Bali Center For Sustainable Finance (BCSF) as an effort to provide integrated information on Sustainable Finance for stakeholders to support the successful implementation of the Sustainable Finance program in Indonesia.

The launch of the Bali Center for Sustainable Finance on the campus of Udayana University Bali was followed by a national seminar on Sustainable Finance with the theme "Sustainable Finance as a Key Instrument for Achieving SDGs", as well as the closing ceremony of the Pilot Project of the First Movers on Sustainable Banking and the socialization of POJK Sustainable Finance.

This activity is an implementation of the Sustainable Finance Roadmap 2015-2019 that was launched by OJK in December 2014 as well as a form of support to the government to support sustainable development.

OJK Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Muliaman D Hadad said in his speech that the establishment of this information center is a form of comprehensive support from the financial services sector to create sustainable economic growth resulting from harmony between economic, social and environmental interests.

The establishment of the Bali center is also supported by Kemenristek DIKTI and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

The selection of Udayana University Bali as a Center for Sustainable Finance is motivated by Bali as a tourist area in Indonesia that has social and environmental conditions conducive to the development of Sustainable Finance, as well as full support from the Regional Government and other stakeholders for the initiative to establish the Bali Center for Sustainable Finance. Some of the objectives of the establishment of BCSF are:

  1. Provide a study and learning center for all parties including financial services industry players, policy makers, business actors in the financial services sector, real sector business actors and the public in conducting studies / research / learning on Sustainable Finance;
  2. A means of gathering experts from various fields of study such as: economics, business, finance, environment, energy, infrastructure, practitioners from the financial services sector to jointly discuss and share knowledge about challenges and obstacles in the implementation of Sustainable Finance;
  3. Building a network of all stakeholders of the Sustainable Finance program; and conducting pilot projects that connect the results of academic research, industry players, and the financial services sector.

Through this BCSF, Muliaman expects the development of scientific publications related to Sustainable Finance, considering that related research is still very limited. Of course, support from Kemenristek DIKTI is also needed to help scientific publications in national and international journals in the future.
