Financial Services Authority, Maumere, October 16, 2016: The Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues promoting the expansion of the Financial Inclusion for All program to every corner of the Indonesian archipelago. The program is expected to give the public even wider access to the financial services sector.

"Financial education is important for increasing public access to the financial services sector. This program can help alleviate poverty because when the access is close at hand, it will be easy for the population to save their money, start businesses and conduct productive economic activities," Chairman of OJK's Board of Commissioners Muliaman D. Hadad said when inaugurating an Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) Investment Gallery at Maumere Nusa Nipa University, East Nusa Tenggara.

According to Muliaman, access to the financial services sector was no less important than that to health and education facilities, because the better the public understand and use financial products and services, the higher their welfare will be.

Muliaman explained that the capital market has become the new favorite platform in the financial sector as it has many advantages especially in terms of long-term financing. Therefore, the OJK will carry on advocating capital market development by, for instance, supporting implementation of the IDX Investment Gallery program at universities, so students and the general public can know more about capital market products and services.

Financial access should be opened up as much as possible, not only to capital market, but also to banks and non-banking financial institutions, to further improve financial inclusion, in line with Indonesia's National Strategy of Financial Inclusion.

The IDX Investment Gallery at Nusa Nipa University is the 62nd gallery inaugurated in 2016. It is the first of such gallery in Maumere and the 2nd in the East Nusa Tenggara Province. So far, IDX Investment Galleries have been established at a total of 217 universities across Indonesia.
