Press Release: OJK Partners with Bandung Institute of Technology to Raise Financial Literacy and Inclusion

Bandung, July 17, 2017 — The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has partnered with Bandung Institute of Technology's School of Business and Management (SBM-ITB), as part of its program to raise financial literacy and inclusion.

A joint statement of their cooperation was signed by OJK Department Head of Financial Literacy and Inclusion Agus Sugiarto and SBM-ITB Dean Sudarso K. Wiryono at the school's campus in Bandung, on Monday (Jul. 17).

Kusumaningtuti S. Soetiono, OJK Member of Board of Commissioners for Consumer Education and Protection, on that occasion revealed that the scope of their cooperation covered several topics, which included a plan to found a financial literacy and inclusion research center (PRLIK), organizing general lectures regularly, holding focus group discussion (FGD), conducting financial literacy and inclusion review, implementing outreach programs through thematic training of trainers for students carrying out the Community Service Program (KKN) and training of communities – financial planning for the public.

To start their cooperation, soon the OJK and the SMB-ITB will inaugurate a financial literacy and inclusion research center (PRLIK). The center is expected to provide a platform for the scholars' community to contribute to increasing financial literacy and inclusion by undertaking research activities and writing scientific reviews.

The cooperation and its upcoming implementation are expected to lead to bigger participation and support from the scholars' community in promoting OJK policies and working programs that are more specific, on target and produce multiplier effects for public welfare towards higher financial literacy and inclusion among national population.

The joint statement signing will be followed up with a Limited Discussion on the Role of Financial Literacy and Inclusion for University Students. It will present OJK Member of Board of Commissioners for Consumer Education and Protection as the speaker, and SBM-ITB lecturers and doctoral students will attend the event.

Going forward, the OJK will continue promoting establishment of financial literacy and inclusion research centers at other public and private universities, as well as cooperation with other third parties. More similar research centers across Indonesia are expected to spur increase of public financial literacy and access.

Besides working together with the SBM-ITB, the OJK has entered into similar cooperation with Brawijaya, Gadjah Mada, and Trisakti Universities.
