The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be organizing an international seminar on the theme of 'Navigating Financial Stability in an Evolving Global Economic System' on July 13-14, 2017, in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The seminar will present keynote speakers, including OJK Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Muliaman D. Hadad, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia 2009-2014 Boediono, Minister of Trade 2004-2011 Mari Elka Pangestu, and Distinguished Fellow of Asia Global Institute, the University of Hong Kong, Andrew Sheng.

Background

Even though the year 2017 starts with more optimistic outlook, some uncertainties continue to be seen and potentially affect financial system stability. Some of the global risks include mounting protectionism tendencies, escalating geopolitical risks, and increasing volatility in commodity prices. Such developments could potentially put a damper on global growth, trigger capital outflows, and lower market confidence.

Authorities and policymakers around the world will need to undertake necessary measures to strengthen the resilience of their respective economies. In the financial sector, a comprehensive policy framework needs to take place to safeguard the stability of financial system. For emerging markets, such agenda has become even more important, since maintaining financial stability would support their ongoing efforts to boost economic growth.

A series of challenges arise in terms of navigating financial stability in a rapidly changing global economic landscape. How do Indonesia and other economies in the region strengthen their crisis management framework? How should they adapt to recent developments, including the increasing complexity and cross-border integration of financial systems? How should the policymakers address the role of technology advancement that affects the market?

Purpose

The Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK), supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), will be organizing the International Seminar on Navigating Financial Stability in an Evolving Global Economic System on July 13-14, 2017. The event provides platform for regulators, financial industry players, and other relevant parties in the region to discuss recent challenges and priority agenda in navigating financial stability amidst uncertainties. Discussions will focus on important topics in the areas of financial system stability and recent issues in the global economy and financial markets.

The seminar will be attended by representatives of Indonesian government institutions, industry associations, financial institutions, and academics, as well as representatives of financial sector authorities from Asian-Pacific economies. Participation at this event is by invitation only.
